Is Your Church Using Twitter?

Posted by exiadmin in Untagged

In our last newsletter, I asked you, our readers and Facebook fans, about your thoughts in Twittering during a church service.

What really prompted me to find out if you twitter or encourage twittering during a church service is this article in Time.com that I came across with several weeks ago.

twitter.pngThere is no doubt that Twitter is a powerful marketing and communication tool. It has been reported to have done amazing things for some small businesses and Fortune 500 companies alike and there is absolutely nothing wrong for the church to make use of it. In fact, I recommend churches to do so. It is definitely one of the ways to drive traffic to your church website. However, I believe there is an appropriate time and place to do it.

There are several reasons why you shouldn’t or should not encourage tweeting during a church service. I agree very well with Josh Harris’ thoughts on this.

I was reminded of the story in Luke 10:38-42 where Martha was busy preparing but Mary sat at the feet of Jesus, eager to listen to what He had to say.

I can relate it to a modern day situation where church is busy “tweeting” during a service because we want to spread the word out and hopefully draw in some potential visitors, but we actually miss out on what the Lord has to say in that very moment.

This is what Jesus said to Martha: [41] "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, [42] but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."

For our readers who are not familiar with Twitter, here is a little crash course e-book from a Facebook friend of ours Anthony Coppedge – Twitter for Churches.

This is free for the first 25 readers. After 25 downloads, the link will be forwarded to where you can purchase a copy. Click on the image to download our freebie!
